We at Zervant put together a list of the best tools available for entrepreneurs and small businesses. We’ve racked our brains and chosen what we think are the top 5 when it comes to communication, creativity, money matters, marketing and number crunching. We’ve even chucked in the odd bit of trivia. But best of all, these tools are free to use!
Top 5 Free Tools For Small Businesses
You’re probably already using this one, but it’s so good it’s worth mentioning anyway. Skype specialises in instant messaging and video chat. Pretty much a Rolls-Royce version of FaceTime and WhatsApp combined.
Why You Need Skype
You can use it to contact anyone, anywhere, at any time. And with developments like Skype Translator – which allows you to translate voice calls into 6 languages, and instant messages into over 50 – the communication possibilities are almost endless.
Skype currently has over 30 million active users worldwide, who spend more than 2 billion minutes a day using the service. That’s a lot of conversations!
A virtual version of your notepad, folders, and the ideas board in the meeting room, all rolled into one. Like a few of the other tools on this list, Evernote works on a freemium model (as do the likes of Spotify and LinkedIn).
Why You Need Evernote
As you’re reading this, take a quick look around you. Wouldn’t it be great if all those Post-It notes, scraps of paper, and “hilarious” doodles (yes, we all do them) were safely stored on your computer?
And wouldn’t it be great if you could access them at any time? And share them with colleagues? What about an intuitive, virtual filing system you can use on the go instead of that growing mound of paperwork-cum-dangerous fire hazard lurking in the corner of your desk? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, it time you signed up for Evernote.
If you’re worried this will kill off your artistic side, don’t be. Evernote now comes in a rather marvellous Moleskine version (Moleskine being the notebooks used by the likes of Picasso, Sartre, Hemingway and Matisse). You’re in good company.
Founded (quite literally) by 3 guys in a room back in 2010. 5 years later we have over 60,000 users in more than 140 countries. And we’re just getting started! Our invoicing software is designed to eliminate paperwork and late payments.
Why You Need It
Our mission brief is to make life as easy as possible for entrepreneurs. So for starters we’ve put together a whole list of free tools that will lend a helping hand. Then you’ll need to take a look at our software – it helps you create, send and follow up on invoices. All at the touch of a button. It’s also completely free!
In the Zervant office we speak 5 languages on a daily basis, and have people from 7 different countries (not bad for a team of 20!).
MailChimp is an email marketing service, and a pretty successful one too. It has over 9 million users and sends over 600 million emails a day.
Why You Need MailChimp
Email marketing is great for growing your business. It’s also an inexpensive way to keep existing customers informed and to welcome new ones on board. With MailChimp you can automate campaigns, track how they perform, and create segmented groups for specific targeting. It’s also ideal for reaching mobile users.
The MailChimp mascot’s full name is Frederick von Chimpenheimer IV, but he is also known as “Freddie”. (We also thought someone was pulling our leg, but this comes straight from their CEO).
5. Google Analytics
A web analytics tool that tracks traffic to your website. It provides in-depth statistics and reports.
Why You Need Google Analytics
This tool will tell you everything you need to know about your website and how to enhance your user experience. You can see where your visitors are coming from, what people do on your site, and your best/ worst performing pages. Simply put, if you have a website, you need Google Analytics.
According to a recent report Google Analytics is used by a staggering 49% of the top 1,000,000 websites worldwide.
